Lifted & Heady: New MCC Entices

Wine writer Dave Brookes took a look at our 2017 MCC Mataro-Cinsault-Carignan in the Adelaide Review and liked it a lot calling it “wonderfully heady…Brisk and airy with a light chalky tannin cascade, it’s just lovely.”Full review
The wine was a result of 4 years planning, removing a neighbouring block of Semillon from Lennon Vineyard and sourcing the cuttings for Mataro (aka Mourvedre), Cinsault and Carignan. These are all wonderful red wine grapes hailing from the warmer climes of France and Spain that all ripen late and commingle well together. We wanted a rustic style drop from these grapes and opted to co-ferment them, like the field blends of yore. Lots of time on whole bunches, 70% all up, gives the wine its peppery and smokey aromas. The Cinsault, the lightest of the grapes, provides a bit of cherry/watermelon sweetness. A fun wine, we think, and something we plan to make every year. This is the first one, and like most of the 2017’s we have medium bodied reds with low alcohol, this one clocking in at 12.5%. Order it here.
