Brash Higgins 2014 ‘GR/M’ Grenache/Mataro Biodynamic

Two parcels of Grenache and Mataro from a Biodynamically farmed site in the distinctive sandy soils of Blewitt Springs were hand-picked on the same day and co-fermented using wild yeast in an open fermenter for six weeks. Eight months in five trusty French hogsheads further forged the fine red berry tones of Grenache (70%) with the savoury spice of Mataro (30%). Bottled unfined and unfiltered.

‘An elixir-like headiness to the perfume, notes of orange peel and spice from the Mataro co-mingles nicely with the lively, bright red fruit and chocolate notes of the Grenache. Deceptively lush despite its medium body and dusty tannins, the GR/M bristles with acidity and strikes a nice counterbalance between the openly fruity nature of Grenache and the darker, more brooding grunt of Mataro. A tip of the hat to the wines of Bandol; it’s spicy and wild on a warm and tightly focused frame.’ – Brad Hickey, Vinitor, March 4, 2015.
